Many Justin Bieber fans have been angry and upset following the news that he pulled the plug on his Purpose World Tour with 14 concerts left to go.

Bieber has given no reason for the abrupt cancellation, although insiders say the artist is “just over it” after being on the road for more than 18 months, performing 150 shows across six continents.

In the face of the furor, John Mayer has come to Justin’s defence, and the point he makes is a valid one everyone – especially Bieber’s fans – should hear.

“When someone pulls remaining dates of a tour, it means they would have done real damage to themselves if they kept going,” Mayer tweeted on Tuesday.

“We’ve lost so many great artists lately. I give Justin [two thumbs up] for realising it was time to call it. You should too.”

It appears Mayer was on the money with his assumption Bieber’s health and wellbeing might have been pushed to the limit on the grueling touring schedule.

Speaking to paparazzi in Los Angeles hours after the news broke, Bieber said:

“Everything’s fine,” he says in the video published by TMZ.

“I’ve been on tour for two years … just resting and getting some relaxation.

“I’m gonna ride some bikes.”

To his fans, Justin apologised if they felt “betrayed” by his decision. “I love you guys, I think you guys are awesome.”

His manager Scooter Braun echoed that sentiment in a lengthy Instagram post.

“A man’s soul and wellbeing [that] I truly care about came first and we must all respect and honor that.”

Meanwhile, Today’s Richard Wilkins claims to have insider knowledge that Bieber is planning to start his own church, possibly in assosication with Hillsong, an organisation Justin has been involved with for several years and always visits when in Australia.

“I am led to believe that the real reason he has come off the road is because he wants to reconnect with his faith and he may be even planning to start his own church,” Wilkins said.

“Whether he’s looking at teaming up with [Hillsong] in something of a more permanent situation or doing some sort of religious activity on his own – starting his own church – we’re not quite sure, but that’s the word from an inside source.”
