Get Out filmmaker Jordan Peele has unveiled the exquisite first trailer for his upcoming horror-thriller film, Us, starring Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Elisabeth Moss as summer vacationers who are visited by some uncanny home invaders.

“For my second feature, I wanted to create a monster mythology,” Peele told Entertainment Weekly. “I wanted to do something that was more firmly in the horror genre but still held on to my love of movies that are twisted but fun.”

While plot details for Us are scarce, the trailer confirms that the story is set in the present day and follows Adelaide and Gabe Wilson (played by Black Panther co-stars and former Yale classmates, Nyong’o and Duke) and their children as they revisit Adelaide’s childhood beachside home in Northern California. Following a day spent at the beach with the Tyler family, which includes Elisabeth Moss (pitch perfectly delivering the line “I think it’s vodka o’clock”) and Tim Heidecker, Adelaide becomes increasingly paranoid that something terrible awaits her family, haunted as she is by a trauma from her past. The bone-chilling arrival that night of four terrifying doppelgängers called ‘the Tethered’ in the family’s driveway triggers a relentless nightmare that taps directly into the fear that we might be our own worst enemies.

Us is slated for a March 15 premiere in the United States, and, if the roll-out for Peele’s Academy Award-winning debut Get Out is any indication, you can expect to see Us hitting Australian cinemas in the months following.
