Jennifer Lopez’ fairytale wedding to Ben Affleck certainly didn’t skimp on sentimentality – after all, the pair famously reunited almost two decades after their split – but it turns out every detail was a thoughtful tribute, right down to Lopez’s nails. As reported by Byrdie, there was actually a very sweet meaning behind the Marry Me star’s manicure.
Lopez’s long-time nail artist, Tom Bachik, gave the star a milky-white nail base adorned with several intricately painted hummingbirds, which are said to be symbolic to Lopez. The outlet revealed that the star actually spoke about her love for hummingbirds in a recent edition of her newsletter, On The JLo.
“Birds always fly around me,” she said. “I’ve always had a special connection with hummingbirds. I realized that a lot of people say they symbolize love…Whenever I am in a moment of doubt and confusion, one will magically appear by my window, reminding me that the universe will always speak to us if we are open to the signs.”
Bachik painted the design onto her nails ahead of the big day for a uniquely sentimental manicure. “Intimate moments and personal details is what made Jennifer’s custom wedding nails so special,” he wrote of his work on Instagram.
“Keeping it monochromatic I used #miasecret Gel Paint in ‘Snow White’ and a tiny detail brush adding petite flowers to accent nails and a singular hummingbird (special to her) only on her ring finger. The artwork was kept subtle and barely noticeable accept [sic] to those who knew.”
The celebrity nail expert revealed that Lopez has been requesting lighter nail tones recently, which ultimately led to them choosing the pearly shade. “Jen is loving milky nails. I love how they give a timeless feel and an elegant twist to a classic French. To create that milky depth in our shade I custom blended 😊 #miasecret gelux white gel polish with Luxury Base and Top gel,” Bachik explained.
The look was finished with a touch of silver glitter because, as Bachik put it, “It wouldn’t be JLo without sparkle”.
