Each year Jennifer Lopez is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated appearances at the Met Gala. This year the actress and singer brought billowing gowns and extravagant embellishments into a Western-inspired ensemble. The theme is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” so it only makes sense that Jenny From The Block would look to Ralph Lauren for inspiration.
The deep chocolate gown featured a plunging neckline and sweeping train. It was accessorised with a fur and feathered shrug, a low-slung brown leather belt, layered choker, necklace and a wide-brim hat.
“Tonight, Ralph Lauren celebrates the metamorphosis of American fashion — and his enduring narratives of untraditional style — at the 2021 #MetGala,” the brand wrote to social media.
Many hoped Ben Affleck would be in attendance with the singer after he appeared at the Venice Film Festival last week in their first public debut since rekindling their love earlier this year.
Ralph Lauren established his namesake corporation in 1967 and influenced by old Hollywood glamour, created his own line of men’s ties under the name ‘Polo’. In 1968 he debuted his first collection featuring styles such as the white flannel suit and dress shirts in unexpected sport shirt fabrics. “I wanted more romance,” Ralph said at the time. “I wanted something that got me excited.”
Since, the designer has become synonymous with branded staples and glamorous runway shows all the same.
Lopez has long been a friend of the brand and attended the CFDA Fashion Awards in 2019 wearing a glittering red two-piece ensemble from the designer.
