There are few moments as candid as this. At the weekend in time for Mother’s Day, Jennifer Lopez appeared on stage for Global Citizen’s Vax Live, one of the first live concerts America has experienced since the pandemic. The “Let’s Get Loud” artist noted she hadn’t seen her mother, Guadalupe Rodríguez, at Christmas for the first time due to COVID-19 and invited her to perform a rendition of “Sweet Caroline”.

According to the 51-year-old, the song is particularly sentimental.

“Mom, is it true you used to sing me this song when I was a baby?” Lopez asked her mum.

“When I used to rock you,” she replied. “I would sing, ‘Sweet Jennifer.'”

“Lets sing it like a lullaby, and let’s help her out,” Lopez told the audience. “Sing it to me just like you used to sing it to me.”

Watch all five minutes below. I assure you it will make you miss your own mum. Lopez joined the likes of artists Selena Gomez and H.E.R. as well as Jill Biden, Meghan Markle and Olivia Munn who all shared messages of hope and unity.

On Instagram, Lopez shared a Mother’s Day campaign featuring her mother and 13-year-old daughter, Emme, for JLo Beauty.

“It was my mom who instilled in us at a very young age that we could do anything,” Lopez wrote to her 153 million followers. “This was something that has really stayed with me. Being a mom is my greatest joy, and today I think about my mommy and all the moms out there. This is your day, and I hope you are surrounded by love, gratitude and appreciation…enjoy it!”

Elsewhere on social media, Ben Affleck paid a touching tribute to ex-wife Jennifer Garner: “So happy to share these kids with you. Luckiest parents in the world.”
