It was the rekindled relationship that no one saw coming – the return of “Bennifer”.

And nearly 20 years after calling off their wedding originally, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are engaged again, in a move that made it feel like we’re back in 2002.

Affleck, 49, popped the question to Lopez, 52, last week with a $3 million, 8.5-carat green diamond ring, after the on again, off again couple reunited last year.

While Lopez “loves her ring” and “can’t stop looking at it”, a source told People magazine that the pair had not yet spoken about planning a wedding and instead, had celebrated privately “for a few days” prior to announcing their engagement to the world.

“It’s very cute to see how excited she is. Ben makes her incredibly happy,” the source told People.

Their second-time-around engagement was announced via a video on JLo’s website. “So I have a really exciting and special story to share,” Lopez teased to her followers on Instagram.

The couple known as “Bennifer” got together in 2002, and became engaged in 2003 before they broke up in 2004. They reunited in May last year, in the wake of JLo’s split from former fiancé, Alex Rodriguez.

Amid speculation about their reunion, a source confirmed that Lopez had “spent time with Ben” in Los Angeles in April last year.

“They have kept in touch every day since their Montana trip,” the source told People, at the time. By July, “Bennifer” was Instagram official.

Speaking about their reunion, Lopez told People:  “We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience, we’re at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things.”

“I think we are strong enough now to know what’s real and what’s not, whereas when we were younger maybe some of those outside voices were a little bit tougher for us to reconcile and survive.

“I feel so lucky and happy and proud to be with him.”
