jenniferanistongraziaJennifer Aniston made headlines in July when she wrote a personal and passionate opinion piece for the Huffington Post, condemning the constant speculation about whether or not she’s pregnant in tabloid publications.

The actress is not backing down, continuing the conversation and even urging people to stop buying tabloid magazines when she appeared on The Ellen Show on Wednesday.

She also revealed that originally she never planned to publish the piece.

“I did it at first really for myself just to sort of…you know how we write and don’t necessarily send it?” she explained to DeGeneres.

“I was pretty raw at the time. Just came back from a vacation and my mother, she passed. It was really an extraordinary experience in time, and so I was really thrown by all of [the media attention].”

The Office Christmas Party star was referring to a photo published on the cover of InTouch Weekly of herself wearing a bikini which the magazine claimed proved she was pregnant (she later commented she’d just had “a big lunch”).

“A picture of me with a bump and a circle around my stomach with an arrow pointing to it, in this sort of kind of objectifying way,” as she puts it. “I was just fed up with it.”

The 47-year-old urged viewers to stop buying tabloid magazines – she didn’t name particular titles, but it’s assumed InTouch Weekly would be among them.

“All of us need to take responsibility on what we ingest into our brains,” the actress said. “Just because we are women, we have a uterus, we have a vagina, we have ovaries … we, as women, do a lot of incredible things in this world other than just procreate. And not that that is not [incredible], but we just get boxed in.

“So, we have to stop listening to them. We have to stop buying them because we have to support each other, especially at this time, to love each other, to support and to be proud of women whatever your choice is in life. It’s up to us what makes us happy and fulfilled.”

Aniston has been a particular target of tabloid magazines for more than a decade after her high-profile divorce from Brad Pitt, with the focus often on speculation about whether or not she’s pregnant. As she said in her Huffington Post piece, “if I ever do [get pregnant], I will be the first to let you know.”
