Following news the Friends reunion special will finally air in the coming months, European tabloids have reported Jennifer Aniston has told her co-stars she is adopting a child during production. TMZ has since reached out to Aniston’s team where a rep has confirmed all reports are false.

The outlet wrote, “rumours of Jennifer being in the process of adopting a baby are ‘false and never happened.’”

Such news would almost be a non-event if it weren’t for the years of gossip surrounding the actress’ marital and child status. The media attention and speculation got so bad that in 2016, Aniston published an essay in the Huffington Post titled “For The Record”. She called out tabloid publications for body shaming and unfair cultural standards on women.

“For the record, I am not pregnant,” Aniston wrote. “What I am is fed up. I’m fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of journalism,’ the ‘First Amendment’ and ‘celebrity news’.”

“This past month in particular has illuminated for me how much we define a woman’s value based on her marital and maternal status,” she continued. “The sheer amount of resources being spent right now by press trying to simply uncover whether or not I am pregnant (for the bajillionth time… but who’s counting) points to the perpetuation of this notion that women are somehow incomplete, unsuccessful, or unhappy if they’re not married with children.”

Five years later, her words still ring true. The Morning Show star has also commented in the past about her marriages to Brad Pitt, which ended in 2005, and to Justin Theroux, which ended in 2017.

“My marriages, they’ve been very successful, in [my] personal opinion,” Aniston told ELLE US in 2018. “And when they came to an end, it was a choice that was made because we chose to be happy, and sometimes happiness didn’t exist within that arrangement anymore.”

I’ll reiterate it again for the people up the back, you don’t need a partner or a child to be happy.

Matthew Perry confirmed the highly-anticipated Friends reunion would come to fruition in a 2021, in a now-deleted Instagram post. Stay tuned for more details on that.
