After referring to the incident in his song Kill Jay- Z, the rapper was asked about it in an interview with Rap Radar podcast hosts Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller.

We had one disagreement ever,” he said. “Before and after, we’ve been cool.

“She’s like my sister,” he continued. “I will protect her. That’s my sister, not my sister-in-law. My sister. Period.”

Jay, real name Shawn Carter, compared it to fighting with his blood siblings.

“[Solange and I have] always had a great relationship. I fought my brothers and argued with my brothers my whole life. It just so happens, who we are, these things go into a different space … but it ain’t nothing.”

In Kill Jay-Z on his new album 4:44 he raps “You egged Solange on / Knowin’ all along, all you had to say you was wrong”.

Following the 2014 incident which was leaked to TMZ, the family released a statement that said they had “worked through” their issues and wanted to move forward “as a united family”.

“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred” and “acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public.”

Beyonce has spoken publicly of the incident just once, telling Lucky magazine:

“What’s important is that my family and I are all good. What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that.”
