The 2018 Grammy Award nominations have been announced, with rap dominating the year in music.

Jay Z is up for eight awards, including Album of the Year for 4:44, with Kendrick Lamar following with seven nominations.

Pop/R&B artist Bruno Mars trailed Jay Z and Kendrick with six nods.

The Album of the Year category is dominated by rappers and men, with Lorde the only female nominee for her 2017 album Melodrama.

There were several surprising snubs this year. Despite releasing albums that generated a tonne of buzz, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry failed to land a single nomination. Lady Gaga received just two nominations for Joanne, neither in major categories.

Taylor Swift’s Reputation didn’t receive any nominations, but that’s because it was released after the September 30 2017 cut off. She did however get a nod for Best Country Song, a songwriter’s award, for Better Man by Little Big Town. Don’t Wanna Live Forever, which she co-wrote with Jack Antonoff and Sam Dew, was nominated for Best Song Written For Visual Media.

The 60th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on January 28 in New York City.
