It is with a heavy heart today that we bring some sad news: Jason Momoa has shaved his beard.

The Game of Thrones and Aquaman star looks like a different man after removing his facial hair, documenting the dramatic shave in a short film shared on social media.

Fans are, of course, devastated, but we can’t be mad at him. Why? Because the 39-year-old did it for a good cause – to bring attention to the need to cut down on plastic use and recycle more.

Momoa shaving off his beard is a big change – just like moving away from plastic water bottles to aluminum ones – but he did it. Just like the world can change it habits. Get it?

“I just want to do this to bring awareness that plastics are killing our planet,” Momoa explains, shaving his face. “And I think I have a solution. I don’t wanna bitch about it. It’s only one thing that can really help our planet and save our planet.”

Raising awareness for a new line of aluminum water cans, he says:

“About 75 percent of all aluminum that’s ever been used is still in circulation today, and it’s 100 percent recyclable. So you drink the can, and in about 60 days, it’ll be back.”

“There’s a change coming, and it’s aluminum.”

RIP, Beard.
