The extravagant celebrity proposal is something of a lost art. We haven’t had anything verging on the Kimye proposal of 2013 (recap: Kanye rented out an entire baseball stadium and proposed with a 13-carat diamond in front of a large camera crew and a giant billboard reading ‘PLEEEASE MARY MEEE!!!’) in years. So it was a comforting throwback to the days of yore to read about Victoria’s Secret Angel Jasmine Tookes’ decidedly un-lowkey engagement, detailed painstakingly in an interview with Vogue.

Tookes’ long-term partner, Snapchat exec Juan David Borrero, got down on one knee in the middle of the desert in Utah this Monday, following a day-long extravaganza that featured private jets, fried chicken and, naturally, a drone.

Tookes said she began the day with business meetings, until Borrero told her she had two hours to pack a suitcase—location undisclosed. On the way to the airport, the duo took a detour past The Rose, a restaurant in Venice, and the place where they first met.

Next, they took a private jet to Arizona, catered, of course, with fried chicken tenders from Popeye’s (Tookes’ favourite guilty pleasure) and champagne. “Then we hopped on a helicopter which flew us to the most beautiful, otherworldly-like secluded place in the middle of the desert rocks in Utah,” Tookes revealed. “It was just us.”

There, Borrero upped the ante once again, setting up a picnic table with a charcuterie board and champagne, before proposing with the assistance of an actual drone, which carried the sizeable oval diamond ring by Ritani. “I was in complete disbelief and immediately burst into tears because this was something I did not expect,” Tookes gushed. “After lots of happy tears, I obviously said yes, and this was honestly the best day I could’ve ever imagined.”

Am I overwhelmed by this dramatic and expensive display of love? Slightly! Does it matter? No! Congratulations to the happy couple.
