They were never married, but James Packer and Mariah Carey have reportedly completed a financial settlement following their bitter public split.

According to TheBlast.com, Packer paid Carey, who he was engaged to from January – October 2016, a figure somewhere in the vicinity of US $5-10 million.

The amount includes the value of her engagement ring from the Australian billionaire, which the music icon negotiated to be able to keep.

A financial settlement is unusual for a couple that never married or were together for such a short time. But when they broke up in October 2016, allegedly under bitter circumstances, Carey demanded compensation from Packer since she’d uprooted her life to Los Angeles to be with him, TMZ reported at the time.

The 50-year-old businessman recently admitted proposing to the All I Want For Christmas singer was a huge mistake.

“I was at a low point in my personal life,” Packer told The Australian, explaining that financial issues were bringing him down.

“[Film executive, who Packer started movie company RatPac with] Brett Ratner put Mariah and me together. She was kind, exciting and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. She is very bright.

“But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.”

There’s no doubt pop star Carey saw their relationship as a mistake too: earlier this year when asked if she kept in touch with Packer, she said:

“I don’t know where the motherf**ker is.”
