The pier of the five-star Hotel Excelsior is prime real estate for the celebrity style set to be spotted—and more importantly, photographed—while off–duty during the Venice International Film Festival. It’s a place to showcase their street style, tick off deliverables on brand deals and, if you’re Isabelle Huppert, dress however you please.
The legendary French actress is serving as chairperson of the grand jury at this year’s iteration of the annual cinematic affair. So when she’s not attending red carpets with her fellow juror Taylor Russel, the 71-year-old has made it explicitly clear she’s off the clock with her latest look. No, that wasn’t a sightseer photobombing, that was Huppert making her way around one of the most glamorous settings like she’s going on a trip to her local bodega. Trust Huppert to be the only one to make tourist-core look chic.

For the outing, Huppert wore a head-to-toe look from Balenciaga’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection, presented on the streets of Hancock Park in West Hollywood. The range, which commented on influencer culture, peacocking and Y2K tabloid silhouettes, doesn’t typically come to mind when you think of the grand opulence and glamour Venice calls for. But on Huppert, the ‘I Heart Paris’ cap and crimson tracksuit don’t look kitsch or camp but rather perfectly in situ.
The fact of the matter is that attending an event like Venice requires a lot of leg work from stylists pulling looks to spending hours getting ready with your glam team to create a memorable look that cuts through the noise. It’s no secret these events are a chance for celebrities to further position themselves, making every public outing an opportunity to be noticed. So while her contemporaries are dolling themselves up to look great on a speedboat, Huppert is being radically and refreshingly transparent by dressing as she usually would. That’s a coffee run we can get behind.
