Judiciary and fashion don’t typically coexist, but when they do, it’s usually spectacular. Who can forget fake heiress Anna “Delvey” Sorokin’s trial style, which even inspired an Instagram account dedicated to documenting her outfits, @annadelveycourtlooks. There was also Naomi Campbell’s demure sheath, stocking and Mary-Jane ensemble after she was accused of throwing a phone at her housekeeper in 2006, or Amanda Bynes’s shocking blue wig and sweat pants when she began her downward spiral with drugs. Even our own Kym Ellery had a fine week of fashion whilst battling it out with Myer back in 2013, the Victorian Supreme Court witness to many a bell sleeve and flare. But today, Cardi B has quite literally trumped all courtroom fashion in the most stupendous cape-come-headdress-come-coat while attending her assault case.

We Arriving at the Queens Criminal Court in New York, the singer wore Adrienne Landau’s aptly titled Queen’s Coat, an obscenely gargantuan hooded coat which trailed off into a giant train and was flocked in black feathers. Underneath, she cut a modest figure; a black tapered pant, shirt and tie – and a flash of Christian Louboutin red.

However it’s not the only time the rapper has dressed up for the dock. In April, she wore a white sleeveless Christian Siriano tunic-and-pant combo with white heels and a beige Hermés Birkin bag. In June, two pink-hued suits, one in all-out magenta, the other a navy blue Brogger Gurli punctuated with pops of pink (again completed with a Birkin, this time in matching pink). And who could forget her mink coat and Russian cossack hat?

But today’s extravagant entrance in Landau’s coat has topped even her wildest legal look. Whatever the verdict, we can safely say Cardi B took the fashion law into her own hands.
