After weeks of speculation about how House Of Cards would continue without main character Kevin Spacey, Netflix has confirmed Robin Wright will lead the show.

Producers were left scrambling after Netflix announced it would refuse to be involved with House Of Cards as long as Spacey was in the show, in the wake of numerous allegations of sexual harassment against him.

Now, Variety reports production will resume early next month with Robin Wright, who plays Spacey’s wife and co-conspirator Claire Underwood as the central character.

“We were really excited we could get to an agreement [to provide] closure of the show for fans,” Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said.

Sarandos also told Variety the final season of House Of Cards will have just eight episodes, compared to the normal 13.

As the production hiatus stretched on last month, a statement on behalf of the cast and crew said:

“These last two months have tested and tried all of us in ways none of us could have foreseen. The one thing we have learned throughout this process is that this production is bigger than just one person and we could not be more proud to be associated with one of the most loyal and talented production cast and crews in this business.”

Spacey was suspended by the streaming giant on November 3. His film Gore was also cut by Netflix while All The Money In The World director Ridley Scott made the history-making, drastic decision to re-film all of Spacey’s scenes with Christopher Plummer just week’s from its December release.
