There’s a distinct Ying and Yang to the energy in March – with a sense of optimism going head to head with some tenser, more serious astro weather. While the sun, Neptune and Jupiter bring the “yes we can!” mood, Venus and Mars join Saturn in Aquarius to moderate the enthusiasm.

The result is an intriguing tension between the real and the ideal. Dreams vs reality, hopes vs fears, the nonlinear vs the practical. Depending on your chart, you could feel yourself leaning one way more than another. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces risings will be erring on the softer side while Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius rising will be feeling the tension.

Wherever it’s hitting you, the key is to not lean too far either way. If you feel yourself getting sucked into a vortex of “what if” take a minute to consider the best case scenario – what if things worked out? What if you did get that great opportunity, against all odds? There’s potential for flow and serendipity so long as you don’t get too caught up in trying to strategise everything. Let your intuition guide you, especially before the Equinox (21 March AEST; 20 March GMT) and remember worrying about potential scenarios won’t change the outcomes.

ARIES AND ARIES RISING

March is a time to take it easy with big Pisces vibes beckoning you to slow down. As the sun, Jupiter and Neptune heighten your intuition, making space for quiet, even if it’s as simple as having a few more nights at home, will do you wonders. Socially there’ll still be plenty happening and your biggest challenge will be saying “no”. As hard as it is, try not to overload yourself or you’ll end up feeling like you’re caught in an angsty tug of war.

TAURUS AND TAURUS RISING

After a big start to the year, Pisces season (until 21 March AEST; 20 March GMT) is an invitation for Taureans to loosen up. While there’s no escaping the grind – especially on the job front – making time for fun should be a priority too. With the sun lighting up your social life, there’s lush moments for play and escapism – the full moon (18 March AEST; 17 March GMT) looks especially sweet for a mid-week getaway. Set a reminder, write a list, whatever you need to do to make sure you don’t find yourself completely consumed by work.

GEMINI AND GEMINI RISING

So many ideas, so little time! You’re having a major moment at work this month with inspiration and grand plans flowing in faster than you can pitch them. It’s exciting and hopeful and full of opportunity…but it could be easy to bite off more than you can manage long-term. Balance your 3am brainwaves with plenty of chill. Mars may cause some headaches – especially around long distance travel – so have some stress management techniques in place before things get hectic.

CANCER AND CANCER RISING

Ever dreamt about learning to speak French? Taking a Korean culinary course? Doing your MBA abroad? The first few weeks of March are primed to support lofty dreams, especially when it comes to learning and travel. With the sun and Jupiter hanging out with Neptune, the vibe is major, “why not?” Once the sun moves into Aries (until 21 March AEST; 20 March GMT) the spotlight shifts to work so let yourself play and explore possibilities while the mood takes you.

LEO AND LEO RISING

There’s still plenty of action and intensity in your love this month, as Mars and Venus bring the momentum to your romantic sphere (from 6 March). After lots of talk last month, there’s a sense of putting plans into action. Meanwhile, things feel optimistic on the cash front, especially where your purchase (or investment) involves another person. Pay attention to synchronicities but try to stay grounded – especially around the 6th.

VIRGO AND VIRGO RISING

Motivation to hit the gym will be at an all-time high this month as Mars amps up your energy levels. The energy boost feels good, but don’t go too hard, too fast, especially around the 23rd when you’ll be poised to overdo things. Meanwhile Pisces season brings a sense of hope and sweetness to your romantic relationships. Manage workday stress which could feel like a lot, with plenty of downtime spent with your favourite people – romantic or platonic.

LIBRA AND LIBRA RISING

After the heavy decisions weighing on Libra folks this year courtesy of Venus retrograde, March is the perfect time to pause and recentre. There’s a restorative feel to the return of “regular programming”. Sometimes it takes high drama for us to appreciate the joy of an uneventful day (or week). Listen to your body and slow down where you can. Once Aries season arrives (21 March AEST; 20 March GMT) there’ll be a little more action to look forward to.

SCORPIO AND SCORPIO RISING

There’s plenty of excitement on the home front in March. Mars and Venus build on last month’s developments (from 6 March) bringing motivation and desire to rethink your living arrangements. It’s not without drama (thank Uranus) but with the sun in Pisces lighting up your appetite for fun, you’ll feel ready to counter the intensity with lots of late nights. Enjoy yourself but be warned the pull of Prosecco could be extra strong and one drink could turn into 5 very easily.

SAGITTARIUS AND SAGITTARIUS RISING

Cancelling plans will feel more delicious than ever as the sun sails through your home and family sector (until 21 March AEST; 20 March GMT). With Jupiter and Neptune in the mix, it’s the perfect weather to snuggle up to your housemates (or fam) – even better if there’s a nice bottle of Malbec involved. A bit of downtime could be just what the doctor ordered as Mars stirs up mischief especially around communications, local travel and tech.

CAPRICORN AND CAPRICORN RISING

After possible confusion last month, it’s all systems go with Mars and Venus bringing the action to your financial sector. Surprise blowouts or unexpected expenses are all on the table… bringing a sense of delight (or dismay) to your cash sitch. Alleviate the anxiety by escaping into your favourite book or TV show. Crazy as it sounds, this month there really is no worry a Real Housewives binge can’t fix…at least momentarily.

AQUARIUS AND AQUARIUS RISING

The good vibes are shining on your bank account this month (yay!) as the sun continues its saunter through Pisces. A sense of renewed optimism, opportunity or indulgence could have you thinking – or spending big. Meanwhile your desire to make good on all the huge realisations from last month will be major (especially from 6 March) when Mars and Venus kick your butt into gear. Seize the day but don’t be too hard on yourself. You don’t have to make it all happen before month’s end.

PISCES AND PISCES RISING

The first three weeks of the month are a time to chill, with your home season bringing a much needed sense of sweetness to the overall vibe. While there’s still a little tetchiness in the air (thanks Mars in Aquarius from 6 March), there’s plenty of opportunity to relax and surrender to how things are unfolding. The full moon (18 March) looks especially sweet for daydreaming with someone you love. There’s no need to hustle, let the opportunities come to you and allow yourself to imagine “what if”.
