Helena Bonham Carter is feeling pretty fabulous right about now, and who could blame her?

She received the British Icon of the Year Award at the Harper’s Bazaar Women Of The Year award on Tuesday, is about to star as Margaret in the new season of Netflix series The Crown and has just done a gorgeous shoot for the December issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK, where she looks stunning in a series of elegant, yet quirky gowns (they’re a bit like Bonham Carter herself) and talks about the new man in her life.

Bonham Carter was previously partnered with director Tim Burton of Edward Scissorhands fame and the pair enjoyed an unconventional relationship, living separately, but next door to each other. They were together from 2001 until 2014 and Bonham Carter spoke of her grief about their split in an earlier interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “Everyone always says you have to be strong and have a stiff upper lip, but it’s okay to be fragile…. You’ve got to take very small steps, and sometimes you won’t know where to go next because you’ve lost yourself.” she said. “With divorce, you go through massive grief—it is a death of a relationship, so it’s utterly bewildering. Your identity, everything, changes.”

The comments are a far cry from what she has to say about her current relationship with writer Rye Dag Holmboe, 32, who shares with Bonham Carter a fancy three-barrelled name.

‘You break up, you grieve, you get bored of grieving’, she said, referring to her split from Burton. ‘And then you finally move on’. I’m very happy with someone else. It’s been a bit of unexpected magic in my life.’

Bonham Carter also spoke about ageing in the interview, saying  ‘When I turned 50, I worried it was downhill all the way. But it’s quite the opposite. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier or more fulfilled.

‘This huge blooming of television means character-driven stories, so there’s a lot of choice and a lot of work. When I was young, you were considered “older” over 30.’

We reckon her newfound happiness might have a bit to do with Holmboe too, who is quite a handsome chap. The couple reportedly met a mutual friend’s wedding in the European summer of 2018 and began dating shortly afterwards. They do not step out in public together often but were papped in May this year on a trip to New York for Bonham Carter’s birthday, where they drank smoothies, shopped, kissed on the street, and even popped into the Museum of Sex.

The December Harper’s issue declares the Emmy-winning and multiple Academy Award nominee a “national treasure” and it’s hard to disagree.

Supposedly Bonham Carter and her ex Tim Burton are currently trying to help their friend Johnny Depp following the fallout from his failed marriage to Amber Heard. They are said to be very worried about him.
