In recent years past, we’ve seen celebrities deter from the usual sexy superlatives placed before every generic job title as a Halloween costume. Read: Sexy librarian, sexy nurse, the list goes on. Call it the latest, biting wave of feminism, “we women are more than scantily-clad, repetitive gimmicks”. In 2016, the tried-and-true costume trunk of Disney princesses has retired (Jasmine Tookes, you’re excused) in favour of original ideas that no one else has thought of. And no, everyone has thought of going as Harley Quinn so that idea won’t suffice.
On the weekend, we saw Kylie Jenner dress as Christina Aguilera in her 2002 Dirrty film clip – and an uncanny resemblance it was as well, right down to the black and blonde mini plaits in her hair. Jenna Dewan-Tatum took Pat McGrath’s glitter lip to her hairline as a beautiful, sparkling unicorn. Katy Perry showed her unwavering support for the democrats as Hillary Clinton. And Luna Legend won everybody’s heart as mum Chrissy Teigen dressed her daughter up as a hot dog, a peacock, mini mouse and then a banana.
The Victoria Secret Squad were firmly in the Halloween race for best dressed as well. Martha Hunt and Devon Windsor both channelled Scarface’s Elvira Hancock (who wore it better?), Taylor Hill was a dead Baywatch babe (she’ll tell you she’s the devil though!) and newly-winged Georgia Fowler as a Geisha. The Crawford-Gerber clan proved again they are the coolest family as coordinated punksters. But perhaps it was Sara Sampaio that proved my earlier point. In truly the most scary and unrecognisable costume, a woman with “sexy” as part of her real-life job title took on Halloween in the way one really should. Take a look.
