There’s no place like Hollywood to prove the adage ‘age is just a number’ as a universal truth. However, rather than this being in reference to youthful suitors, it seems that the celebrity style set has embraced the sartorial elements of this phrase.

Take Hailey Bieber, for instance. The Rhode Beauty founder celebrated her upcoming 27th birthday ahead of time by opting for an archival Mugler dress that debuted in 1998, just two years after she was born in 1996.

Earlier this week, Kaia Gerber stepped out in a vintage Ralph Lauren number that’s just as old as she is. (Which is 22-years-old, in case you were wondering).

Though most of these fashion tastemakers were in diapers during the unfolding of the sleekly minimal decade, it’s clear that the stars are finally waking up to the contributions of this period.

In Bieber’s case, who will be experiencing her Saturn return in Sagittarius later this month, the skincare mogul opted for a high-low spin on the decade. For the early birthday celebrations, Bieber opted for an ultra body-conscious red velvet dress from Mugler’s Fall/Winter 1998 collection.

The sensual ensemble featured a low, scooped back and a sexy interpretation on a sweetheart neckline, with protruding fabric that gathered like devil horns around Beiber’s decolletage. (They didn’t call Thierry “angel” for nothing, right?)

Looking to another cornerstone of the 90s, Bieber coated her signature pout in a thick, shimmering lacquer reminiscent of the iconic rolly Lip Smackers. The high-shine sheen is courtesy of Bieber’s limited birthday edition Peptide Lip Treatment. In honour of Bieber’s upcoming lap around the sun, Rhode Beauty released their first-ever shimmering tinted balm in an apt jelly bean flavour.

Sickly sweet and sultry aren’t the archetypes that come to mind when you think of the 90s, but this 20th-century girl is proving otherwise. Sure, the concoction feels like a fever dream, but the way Bieber is pulling these two 90s tropes off, we don’t want to wake up.
