Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber are now happily married, but a few years ago the pair, who met when they were teens, weren’t even on speaking terms.
After dating briefly in 2015, Baldwin and Bieber cut ties completely, during which time Baldwin famously went to the Met Gala with Shawn Mendes and Bieber dated both Sofia Richie and Selena Gomez. Then, in May 2018, the model and singer were surprisingly spotted spending time together again, before, even more surprisingly, getting engaged one month later.
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Baldwin explained how she and Bieber rekindled their romance for the first time, revealing that the talk show host actually had a lot to do with it: “Last time I was here, we did this little party trick where I opened a Corona bottle with my teeth,” she said. “The next morning – after the interview had aired – I got a certain phone call from a certain someone and it was a little like, ‘Hey, how are you? I saw you on Jimmy Fallon last night. You were looking really good. I loved that trick that you did, I had no idea that you can do that. It was so cool,” she continued. “Cut to, I’m now married to that certain someone.”
Fallon, for his part, looked just as shocked as the audience to find out that he’d played a part in the love story. “I feel like Jimmy gets a little credit for helping me spark,” Baldwin acknowledged. “Yup, that is true.”
Who would’ve thought that the way to get an exes attention is to open a beer bottle with your teeth? Ah, young love.
