The coronavirus outbreak in Europe caused many at Milan Fashion Week to panic, prompting some designers to cancel their shows altogether and others to move forward their flights to escape Italy and head to Paris for the next leg of the season. It doesn’t help that every pharmacy in Milan’s city centre was completely sold out of face masks, either.

But, as they say, the show must go on – just with face masks and sanitiser taking over as the biggest accessories of fashion month.

Proving thus, Gwyneth Paltrow is the latest celebrity to spruik a surgical face mask on Instagram, writing that she’s heading to Paris, likely to sit front row at one of the fashion week shows – our guess is Valentino.

“En route to Paris. Paranoid? Prudent? Panicked? Placid? Pandemic? Propaganda?” she captioned the picture from the plane.

“Paltrow’s just going to go ahead and sleep with this thing on the plane. I’ve already been in this movie,” she joked, referencing her role as patient zero in the 2011 movie, Contagion. “Stay safe. Don’t shake hands. Wash hands frequently.”

Of course, Bella Hadid, who walked shows during Milan Fashion Week, also posted a face mask selfie on her way out of the city and Selena Gomez has also since shared photos wearing one.

Who would’ve thought that designer face masks would be in demand for 2020.
