Armani, who was 91 at the time of his passing, had been preparing to mark the 50th anniversary of his Maison during Milan Fashion Week later this month. Plans were well underway for a celebratory runway at the Pinacoteca di Brera, where new and archival designs were to be presented alongside masterpieces from the historic gallery.
Known as Il Signore Armani to his team, the passionate designer was working right up until his final days.
