Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have split after two years together, it’s been confirmed.

The model, 22, and singer, 25, released statements on social media overnight to break the news to their undoubtedly devastated fans.

“Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and friend,” Malik wrote.

“She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time; we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all. xZ”

Meanwhile Hadid said:

“Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience over a few years … not only in the relationship, but in life in general. I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for. As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will be. xG”

Many will be wondering what happened to the seemingly happy couple, who shared posts like this to celebrate their anniversary.

The Sun, the first outlet to publish the news, cites an insider who blames work pressures causing them to drift apart.

“The reality is that they’ve grown apart, having been together for a long time,” the source said. “They have crazy work schedules that would put pressure on any relationship.”

Gigi and Zayn started dating in November 2015, weeks after she split from Joe Jonas, and months after his break-up with Perrie Edwards.
