Pregnancy announcement aside, it’s been a quiet few weeks for Gigi Hadid. Since fashion month wrapped up in February, the model has been isolating at her mum Yolanda’s Pennsylvania farm with sister Bella and boyfriend-slash-baby-daddy Zayn Malik. The downtime is warranted – it’s estimated she’s in her second trimester with her first child – so there’s been lots of baking, gardening and video-gaming on the agenda. But this morning Hadid, who is also the face of Maybelline Cosmetics, went live on Instagram with makeup artist Erin Parsons to take us through an extended version of a look that’s made-up but natural on her own, taking advice real time from Parsons via video chat.
Hadid, who is known for her Angelino glow, cherubic cheeks and impossibly high brows, typically seems untouchable in the beauty stakes but the how-to was surprisingly relatable and real. She actually touched on her cheeks, explaining that while people think she’s had fillers, her face has been round since birth, “especially during fashion month, when I was already, like, a few months preggo, you know.”
The pair started with skincare. A fresh faced Gigi referenced sun spots around the tops of her cheeks – pigmentation that looked a lot like pregnancy-induced melasma (but she kept mum on the bebe, much to this nosey editor’s dismay). She also spoke about her penchant for natural skincare recently, using serums and oils made from olive trees (brand unknown at this stage) and face mist enriched with rose quartz.
Between the two of them, there’s so many great tips to take home. Parsons, suggests matching foundation to the warmest part of your body (like the chest) and always taking a little foundation behind the ears if you’re wearing your hair up. Hadid, who uses fingers to really massage her foundation into the skin, creamy concealer to hide pigmentation and tiny strokes to fill her brows, is also a bit of a makeup maverick. The finished look is glowy and done but natural – a similar look to the one Gigi wore when she appeared on Jimmy Fallon via video link a fortnight ago (Parsons FaceTimed Hadid before the appearance to talk her though her makeup). “I’m drag, you’re baby natural and together we create natural glamour,” as Parsons put it.
Because the look is made up on Maybelline products exclusively, it’s also surprisingly affordable (bonus). See the video and shop the edit below.
