It seems that low-slung denim, combat boots and and smudged eyeliner was not enough to deter even the most savvy micro trend followers among us from the impending indie sleaze trend. Today, Gigi Hadid soft launched the next phase of the 2010 trend on Instagram when she stepped out in cut-off denim shorts over the top of sheer stockings.

In a series of photographs Hadid wore a red tweed blazer, turtle-neck cropped knit, high-waisted denim shorts, a glitzy buckled belt and sheer Calzedonia stockings . The model who serves as a host alongside Tan France in the Netflix reality series Next In Fashion was on set for the television show along with longtime partners Maybelline to promote Mental Health month.

Hadid was not the first to bring back the indie sleaze ensemble with Beyoncé quietly debuting the look this year at the Super Bowl in February. Her ensemble was a little more dressy and featured a lace strapless corset, cropped trench coats and a diamond choker.

The look – no matter how polarising – harks back to Rihanna’s Loud era in 2010. In one street style look the pop star can be seen leaving The Late Show with David Letterman in black shimmering tights and tiny denim shorts.

The indie sleaze movement has slowly gained momentum in recent months after the return of Y2K micro trends made way for unique styling choices and throwback looks. Truly, anything goes. As for the beauty sector, expect to see sweeping side bangs (the ones we used to try and cut ourselves), unremarkable eyebrows and lots, lots of eyeliner.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
