The celebrity couples allowed entry into the exclusive ‘best dressed’ list are seemingly determined by two factors: boldness and homogeneity. The latter can be attributed to the rise in A-listers who’ve tried their hands at complementary couple dressing—that is, matching outfits or dressing in a way that compliments your significant other—while those who eschew this all altogether are automatically favoured for their risk-taking abilities. But why not have both? That’s what Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper tried to prove in New York after taking to the East Village to test this street style theory.
While Cooper has embraced Hadid’s maximalist style philosophy since they began their relationship in October 2023, the pair leant into a more muted silhouette for their outing. The supermodel was seen cutting a casual figure in slouchy denim jeans from Cotton Citizen and a graphic white top from Re/Done featuring a photo of a cowboy and the slogan ‘Beverly Hills Rodeo’, which is perhaps a subtle nod to her sister Bella Hadid’s newfound sartorial Western fever. The 29-year-old kept things cosy with an ivory quilted jacket featuring a contrasting patchwork pocket and Birkenstock Boston clogs.
Of course, anything too harmonious would certainly not appeal to Hadid’s own eclectic taste. To bring a touch of contrast to their looks, Hadid and Cooper opted for the ‘pop of red’ trend, a popular styling hack that encourages slicing through a sea of neutral tones with a sliver of scarlet, crimson or burgundy hues. To add dimension to their otherwise coordinating outfits, Hadid wrapped a ruby red sweater from her knitwear brand, Guest In Residence, around her shoulders and offset her Malibu beach blonde bob with a red-brimmed cap. Cooper followed suit in a red shirt and slate grey chinos.
The sighting is a rare glimpse at the duo’s style, especially considering how much of a low profile they’ve kept since taking their romance public. Despite the lack of synchronised appearances, Hadid hasn’t shied away from gushing over the 49-year-old in the press. While sharing the runway with his ex-girlfriend Irina Shayk at the recent Victoria’s Secret fashion show, Hadid remarked that Cooper was so “supportive”.
