You can be forgiven if you haven’t heard of musician James Vincent McMorrow. Except that if you were one of the 30 million people who viewed the Game Of Thrones Season 6 trailer upon debut in March 2016, or watched Gossip Girl when Blair told Chuck what happened in the aftermath of his car accident, you actually have heard the Dublin-born singer, even via a subconscious ear. And come July, you’ll hear him again in his only Australian show at Splendour In The Grass.
According to Variety, the Emmy-award winning HBO GOT series trailer pulled in eight million views on YouTube and 22 million on its Facebook page in less than 24 hours from debut. In comparison, the Season 5 trailer garnered 27 million on its first day. This, and the fact extra security was hired to limit piracy opportunities of the episodes in the lead up to the April 25 air date, suggests this season could be bigger than ever. And McMorrow, in his Chris Issak rendition of Wicked Game, was responsible for those Bon-Iver-esque falsetto moments in between Westeros and the Wall, the same ones that sent chills when Jon Snow’s fate is left hanging.
It seems McMorrow has a knack for garnering attention via television shows. In 2008 and at just 24-years old, the singer signed a deal with EMI/Universal Music in London but soon-after was dropped. Flying back to his homeland in Dublin, McMorrow recorded his first album, Early In The Morning, in a little studio by the sea in Drogheda, on Ireland’s East Coast.
In 2012, his single From The Woods was picked up for play on Grey’s Anatomy, Season 6. And, despite a slow start, the LP was now selling fast in Ireland and in the UK. People were recognising McMorrow’s voice, and so were a lot of television producers. As well as featuring on Made In Chelsea, Parenthood, Teen Wolf and channel ten’s Wonderland, here’s some other TV shows that featured the indie-pop crooner.

The singer will join SITG headliners The Strokes, Flume and Santigold and GRAZIA favourites Montaigne, Wafia, Little May and the The Preatures on July 22.
