Bree Warren is a woman on a mission.

The “Curve” model – with a 222k-strong Instagram following – is on a mission to shift the social stigma which besets the “plus” shape. She’s on a mission to change the narrative that curve girls are “fat” and “unhealthy.” She’s on a mission to disrupt the normative standards of the modelling industry, one curvy Instagram post at a time. And in this current ‘plastic fantastic’ climate, there has never been a better, or more important, time to cheer on difference in all its forms.

“I want to change the misconception that curve models are obese or unhealthy and I want to change the parameters of what makes a model in the first place,” says Warren proudly. “I have a totally normal, healthy body type and I think I represent a middle ground in the fashion industry that wasn’t there before. It’s a cool pivotal moment right now where we are really starting to see some diversity and it’s refreshing.”

Here, she discusses the importance of diversity in the industry, how she battles the bullying and reveals a love for the big blue (and green).

What does your day on a plate look like?
Green! Everyday is different and I spend a lot of time away from home so I just try to get green vegetables wherever I can. And if I can’t get those then I’ll get a green juice. It keeps me feeling fresh and on top of things. I don’t have any strict diet rules but I try to stay away from processed sugars and salt.

What is your favourite workout?
Surfing. I like being in the ocean and it’s the only time I’m totally disconnected and uncontactable.

What is your view on the ‘curve’ industry, and why do you think it is important in the female narrative?
For me, it’s always been pretty simple, we need to see a range of different body types not just one. We as women need to embrace our differences and accept a broad range of beauty. I think in 10 years time, people will think it’s crazy that we never had diversity before!

What do you believe your role is as a ‘curve’ model?
I think it’s about change. I spent a lot of time as a model not really fitting in anywhere and I guess now I feel a bit of responsibility to keep fighting for that change. I want to change the misconception that curve models are obese or unhealthy and I want to change the parameters of what makes a model in the first place. I have a totally normal, healthy body type and I think I represent a middle ground in the fashion industry that wasn’t there before. It’s a cool pivotal moment right now where we are really starting to see some diversity and it’s refreshing.

What does positive body image mean to you?
It means being confident and happy with who you are and what you look like. It takes time to really establish a positive mind-set and the road isn’t always easy but it’s just so so important.

How do you remedy “fat shaming” and cyber-bullying?
I wish I could remedy it but I don’t think anyone is immune these days. I take it as part of the territory and try not to pay attention to it. It is a shame that the internet has such an ugly side to it these days but there’s just no point getting caught up in it. I really believe positive attracts positive and I like to keep my Instagram a positive place.

Can you please tell us what your go-to beauty look is?
It’s basically just brows and bronzing. If I’m not working I try not to wear foundation to let my skin breathe. I use Anastasia Brow Wizz Pencil and Anastasia Clear Brow Gel. Fenty Beauty Matte Contour Stick and then Charlotte Tilbury Film Star Bronze Highlighter Kit. I curl my lashes with Shu Uemura curler as it’s the only one wide enough for my eyes, use Fresh Beauty Nude Sugar Lip Stick and I am good to go.

How does this change from day to night?
For night I add concealer and an eye. I use Tom Ford Foundation Stick, Milk Make Up Highlighter, Fenty Beauty Contour stick on my lids and Kevin Aucoin Volume Mascara.

Do you have any unique makeup tricks or tips?
Olaplex 3 at home treatment saves my hair. I put it in before I go to the beach and leave it in all day. Mario Badescu drying lotion if you see a spot coming.

What’s inside your handbag – and what is your handbag of choice?
Chanel Boy Bag is always my number one but inside it is usually a big mess. I have always admired women who have a very orderly handbag but unfortunately I’m not one of them. Right now have five different lip balms, my passport, sunscreen, keys, tickets, bankcards and an arsenal of vitamins and supplements.

What’s your skincare routine?
I try to keep it very simple as I never have much time and don’t like too many chemicals going on my skin. I use Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel and Shiseido Bio Performance Revitalizing Cream every morning and night. Occasionally a flashpatch from Patchology on my eyes in the morning if I’m feeling tired or a brightening serum like Dr. Dennis Gross C+ Serum.

What are your ultimate go-to beauty products?
I’ve found a big part of how my skin looks comes from what I’ve been eating and drinking. My ultimate products are Welle Co Super Ellixir, everything from the Beauty Chef and also obsessed with Bear Ltd Vitamins at the moment.

What are your favourite beauty treatments and why?
I’m on a plane every two or three days so my skin gets dry and dull after a long stint of flights and hotels. I use SKII Facial Treatment Masks to rehydrate or Oxygen Facial if I’m in NY. I do a Frank Body Coffee Scrub or Epsom salt baths if I’m in a hotel room and want to refresh. Next thing on my list to try is Cryotherapy!

You’re based in New York City. What are your favourite beauty salons in NYC?
Not a beauty salon but Glossier Showroom is heaven! Also love Skin Laundry, JinSoon and Treatment by Lanshin in Williamsburg.

And lastly, what is NYC’s best kept secret, according to you?
North Brooklyn Farms. You can bring your own wine and sit on the grass with your friends and watch the sunset over the skyline.
