Our eternal style muse and favourite crooning Casanova, Harry Styles, had an astounding three costume changes at today’s BRIT Awards, but it hasn’t been all sunshine, lollipops and Gucci for the singer. Styles was reportedly robbed at knifepoint in north London during a night out on, wait for it, Valentine’s Day.

Yes, instead of Cupid and a bow and arrow, it was a mugger and a knife, with Styles reportedly attacked near a pub in Spaniards Road, Hampstead. The former One Directioner obliged willingly, handing over cash, with a source telling The Cut, he “played it pretty cool, quickly giving the assailant cash, keeping himself and the guy calm, and getting the situation over with”.

The Met confirmed it was investigating a knifepoint robbery in the area: “It was reported that a man in his 20s was approached by another man and threatened him with a knife. The victim was not injured; however, cash was taken from him. No arrests [were made] and enquiries are ongoing.”

Despite the terrifying assault, Styles was in good spirits at the BRIT Awards and back to his brilliant sartorial best with not one, but two excellent Gucci outfits and a Marc Jacobs one. First, his red carpet look: a more classic cocoa suit with mauve knit, lacy Peter Pan collared shirt and his famous string of pearls. Then he took the stage in a frilly, floral, brocade boiler suit that would make Elton John proud. And last but most certainly not least, a retro-inspired three-piece suit by Marc Jacobs in canary yellow with purple pussy bow neck-tie and polka dot shirt, rounding out the Harry Styles fashion trifecta.

But it was the tiny pin which adorned the lapel of his yellow suit which was most significant. “Treat people with kindness”, it read, seemingly a response to the death of his ex-girlfriend Caroline Flack, who passed away on the weekend by suicide after being the fodder of Britain’s scathing tabloid press and online bullying.

A tiny tribute with a big message, this is more profound than any shiny outfit or string of pearls.
