Many breathless column inches are dedicated to the off-duty style choices of Bella and Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Bieber—the reigning queens of the ‘social media supermodel’ era. And while much of the attention is well-deserved (Kendall’s head-to-toe The Row look, anyone?), this laser focus often means we’re sleeping on the sartorial genius of other top models. Take, for example, Liu Wen, the Chinese super who truly knows how to craft a good outfit.
32-year-old Wen has been busy during the last few months, regularly photographed at Beijing airport as she travels for work. Her airport attire channels the effortlessly chic aesthetic that most top models are well-versed in: off-the-runway designer goods mixed with classic wardrobe staples like vintage Levis 501s and beaten-up sneakers. Wen, however, always manages to add an extra layer of polish. Reminiscent of the slick elegance of Karlie Kloss, Wen ups the ante with streamlined silhouettes, faultless hair and makeup, and clever styling tricks, all of which combine to make her one of the best-dressed models in the business.
Exhibit A: yesterday morning, when she was photographed wearing a slouchy grey tracksuit, fresh-out-the-box Celine high-top sneakers, and an oversized brown leather shearling coat. Or last week, when she wore perfectly-cut straight-leg denim with chunky, lug-soled boots, and a belted camel puffer jacket (note the symmetrical layering of the zipped-up polo underneath).
