They say you should wear your heart on your sleeve, but what about wearing luck in the same spot? Better yet, what about wearing it all over via a luxurious collection dedicated to channelling prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead? Ferragamo have the answer.

Ferragamo’s decision to hire London’s most exciting young emerging designer Maximilian Davis as the House’s new creative director is already paying off in spades. After presenting his debut collection at Milan Fashion Week in September – to industry-wide acclaim no less – Davis has now released a bold contemporary capsule collection in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

In Chinese culture, wearing new clothes in auspicious colours is thought to bring prosperity and good fortune. Just as he expertly integrated a deep red hue into his standout debut SS23 collection (a nod to the colours of the Trinidadian flag and his own background), Davis’ LNY collection sees a revival of the shade.

As 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, a symbol of mercy, elegance and beauty, (the rabbit is also the luckiest animal of the Chinese zodiac), Davis used high-impact prints of the animal’s eye in macro rendered graphics, and transposed them onto crisp white T-shirts, card holders and statement signature bags. The Trifolio and Studio definitely wouldn’t be amiss on the arms and Instagram accounts of Davis’ celebrity followers, such as Dua Lipa, Rihanna and Naomi Campbell.

Elsewhere, Davis added a white rabbit to prints of traditional Chinese symbols (read: peach blossoms which symbolise romance, prosperity and growth, and bamboo leaves (which represents virtue and beauty). The print were then placed on silk foulards and lightweight blouses.

Monochromatic options are also available, such as the Gancio low-top logoed sneakers with perforated motifs, and a fluid blouse perfectly styled over a pleated skirt.

The collection, which includes both womenswear and menswear, is completed with wearable jumpers, relaxed trousers and a padded brown city jacket with a bright red shearling collar that was categorised as men’s but will no doubt be worn by everyone.
