Fergie delivered an off-kilter, jazz-like rendition of the National Anthem on the last day of the NBA All Star Weekend at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles. Fans – and NBA players on court – were stunned and confused by this version of the The Star-Spangled Banner. At certain points, the A Little Work singer struggled to hit the high notes. Even Khloe Kardashian was confused.

Now, Fergie has issued an apology. “I’ve always been honoured and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” she said in a statement acquired by People. “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”
