By now, Rihanna must be used to having Fenty products go viral. After launching on June 3, reviews of her new Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain already have more than 1.1 million views on TikTok.
In just a few weeks, the product has taken the internet by storm, with beauty reviewers raving about the lip stain’s four bold shades and how long the colour stays in place. Naturally, after watching countless TikToks, I had to try the product for myself.

The Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain comes in four shades: Mai Type, a party-girl hot pink; Berry Banger, a deep but wearable purple; Strawberry Sangria, a bright pinky red; and Zesty Bestie, a bold tangerine that was made for anyone who’s had a love affair with MAC’s Morange lipstick in the past. Depending on your skin tone, each colour could make a serious statement, but the most subtle shade (and my personal favourite) has got to be Mai Type.
When first applied, the stain has a glassy finish and is bursting with juicy colour. You can feel straight away that the product is formulated with squalene to hydrate your lips. However, the difference between Fenty’s latest and other lip stains I’ve tried in the past is that there is no immediate colour bleeding and, even with my very messy makeup application, it was easy to tidy up the edges of the colour before the stain really set.
As the stain settles into your lips, it starts to lose its initial wet-look shine, but the colour stays strong. Inspired by TikTok reviews, like the one below which show the product lasting upwards of nine hours, I decided to do my own longevity test.

After applying the product around 11am, I sipped from my drink bottle all day, had lunch, and kissed my dog on the head several times for good measure. And while there was some initial transfer on my drink bottle at first sip, I was pretty damn impressed. Once the stain had settled in and the glossy top layer had wiped away, it did not budge.
By the afternoon, after a second coffee and walk with a friend, the stain was still going strong, settling into a lovely pink tone. Best of all, my lips stayed hydrated the entire time—I didn’t reach for my lip balm once. And after swatching all four shades on my wrist (just like the beauty influencers do) and wiping the excess product away with a tissue, there was no transfer on the inside of my sleeve, even after an entire day.
In the past, I’ve been frustrated with lip stains that feather and bleed, leaving you looking a little too much like you just ate a raspberry ice block. But Fenty Beauty has somehow found the perfect balance, offering a pretty just-a-touch stain that doesn’t end up everywhere or dry out your lips.
The colour is also buildable, making it perfect for people who either want to reapply throughout the day to keep their lips glossy and bright, or for those who just want to apply once in the morning and spend the rest of the day happy knowing their lips are fully taken care of. As per usual, the TikTok hype is real.
