Models tend to stick to a fairly predictable rotation of pieces when they’re ‘off-duty’. Black jeans feature prominently, as does oversized men’s tailoring, perfectly-cut leather jackets, expensive designer handbags and—most often—a classic style of sneakers.

Emily Ratajkowski is a long-time student of this school of sartorial thought, and she wore the quintessential model off-duty ensemble to take her dog, Colombo, for a walk in New York City this weekend. Alongside the aforementioned black jeans (slim leg, cropped) and a baggy men’s bomber jacket, the model wore one of the most recognisable styles of trainer: the Nike Air Force 1.

Launched in 1982, the Air Force 1 quickly became a cultural fashion sensation, popularised in large part by a cohort of NBA players, including Michael Jordan (perhaps Emily was among the many fans of Netflix’s The Last Dance?). Shockingly, women’s sizing was only introduced in 2001, but the shoes have gone on to become an enduring favourite of the world’s most celebrated models.

Emily’s penchant for blinding white sneakers is well-documented. A couple of days ago she stepped out wearing an oversized hoodie, bike shorts, an Oneohtrix Point Never cap, and a pair of white leather sneakers by adidas. In short? For those looking to master an appropriate mix of #WFH nonchalance and high-fashion polish—Emily’s your girl.
