No, the conspiracy theorists haven’t been right all along you did not just see Elvis accompanying Priscilla Presley down the red carpet at the Met Gala. Well, he did. But not really. That double take we all just collectively made was courtesy of Austin Butler, the young actor playing Elvis in the Baz Luhrmann pending movie of the same name. Who, it seems, has continued to embody his character with a bit of extended method acting by accompanying The King’s very own Queen Priscilla Presley to this year’s Met Gala.

While his hair is back to its natural lighter colour, the subtle sneer and hooded eyes that made Butler the perfect choice to play one of music’s most legendary figures (and born to play this role, really) are still present. For fans of Elvis, seeing Butler take to the carpet with Priscilla must be like stepping back in time when their icon was still living and rocking.

Steering away from the white-tie dress code that was “technically” required for the night, Butler has chosen head-to-toe Prada, with a black satin scarf to create a rakish effect – an homage to the satin jumpsuit era of Elvis perhaps? Priscilla kept is similarly simple, black satin matching Prada that this writer hopes is equally an homage to those bygone years – back when the higher the hair made you closer to God. Nary a blue suede show to be seen however. Which we won’t say is a shame but also…shame.

In real life Butler has been linked to fashion royalty Kaia Gerber – supermodel herself and daughter of OG supermodel Cindy Crawford.

Butler has been praised for his performance of the late rock and roll legend, including from Priscilla herself her said that any actor who took on the role of Elvis had “big shoes to fill”. The film is slated to be released in June this year, but already there has been praise for Butler’s transformation and Luhrmann’s direction for the visual spectacular.
