Fashion enthusiasts can all agree that Elle Fanning is always one to watch when it comes to the red carpet. From edgy head-to-toe Celine to breathtaking hues of blue you never know quite what you will get from the Teen Spirit actress. While she is not up for an award (her boyfriend’s latest film Babylon is), Fanning attended the 2023 Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles like she was dressed to win wearing a champagne tulle gown from Sarah Burton’s Alexander McQueen.

Styled by Samantha McMillen, it seemed the actress was channelling her royal on-screen character in The Great. The ethereal gown featured a strapless bodice and partial hoop skirt with layers of lace cascading to her ankles. As is signature for McQueen, it lent a slightly deconstructed look with unfinished sections and cutout detailing.

The look was finished with mirrored gold leather pumps and a single two-toned drop earring. As for Fanning’s hair and makeup, it was pared back – which seems to be an ongoing trend this awards season – with undone blonde waves and nude makeup.

Fanning’s red carpet appearance comes off the back of her captivating role in the 2022 series The Girl from Plainville – a performance one GRAZIA editor described as “disturbing” and “eye opening”. The 24-year-old made a spectacular transformation into Michelle Carter, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter over the suicide of her then-boyfriend Conrad Henri Roy III when he was encouraged to take his own life in 2014.
