The long awaited fifth season of The Crown is fast approaching. Following season four, award-winning actress Emma Corrin passed the baton on to Australian star Elizabeth Debicki who will play the role of Princess Diana in the later years of her life. The upcoming episodes are set to recreate some of the Royal Family’s most tumultuous years including the very public divorce of Prince Charles (now King Charles III).

According to Debicki in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, her new role arrived with one very important question. “When it became known that I had the part, I received these text messages saying congratulations, [but] there was also a huge amount of text messages about the Revenge Dress,” she told the publication. “‘Do you get to wear the Revenge Dress?’ ‘Oh, my God, you get to wear the Revenge Dress!’”

Those who have followed ‘The Firm’ for some time would know that the Revenge Dress earned its title when Prince Charles was caught having an affair. At the same time an exposé was aired on television in 1995, Diana attended a gala in the black off-the-shoulder gown from Greek designer Christina Stambolian. Thus launching her spectacular Divorce-era.

“It fascinated me how entranced people were with that dress,” the actress added, but the importance of the look was not lost on Debicki. When it came to recreate the scene, she said it felt “very significant and quite powerful, but also it provoked something in me as an actor. I can’t really explain it. It’s pretty incredible that a dress would represent a moment in history, or that this human’s life would represent so much and become so iconic. So that was a big day on set for me!”

First look images of the replica were published to social media earlier this year and have since been taken down. We will now have to wait until November 9 when season five of The Crown premieres on Netflix.
