After the nightmare that has been 2020 and 2021 (did we mention that 2022 translates to “2020 too”?) we could all use a little colour and fun. It’s no wonder that the likes of Valentino and Loewe welcomed vibrant frocks and loud accessories to the runway this year with the act of party style given a new term – “dopamine dressing”. Of course, we could rely on Dua Lipa to take the lead.
The queen of Y2K style took to Instagram overnight in her loudest ensemble yet. A psychedelic Versace green catsuit with shoulder pads and a deep plunging neckline which was paired with a neon blue Versace medusa top handle mini bag. The partnership is a natural one after Lipa walked the runway (to her own music) for the fashion house at Milan Fashion Week in September.
For those unacquainted with the term ‘dopamine’, it is simply a neurotransmitter in our brain (kind of like the Jennifer Aniston neruon) that helps you feel pleasure. So essentially, dopamine dressing is what ever makes you feel good!
Hailey Bieber – another public figure skilled in dopamine dressing – had her own spin on the catsuit last month at a lavish function for Saint Laurent. Her iteration featured a bold floral print, a gathered bodice and halter neck straps. Oh, and we couldn’t forget Kim Kardashian’s vibrant pink Balenciaga catsuit at the Saturday Night Live afterparty.
We suspect a bit of dopamine is needed for Lipa in particular this holiday season after ongoing rumours that she and beau Anwar Hadid broke up in November.
Earlier this month, sources spoke to The Sun, saying, “The couple floated the idea about putting the brakes on their romance last month as travelling so much and being apart is proving tough. Their relationship is going through a crisis and appears to be on the rocks.”
We won’t say no to a post breakup, glow up.
