In October 2021 Melbourne emerged from the world’s longest lockdown outside of China. In the 12 months, since the cultural hub of world-class food and art is more alive than ever with Dua Lipa proving to be fan while on the Australian leg of Future Nostalgia Tour this year. Via Service 95 – the pop star’s lifestyle platform – the singer shared her favourite restaurants while in the city. And we can confirm they’re worth booking ASAP.

First on her list (and a personal favourite of this editor) is Hope Street Radio nestled in the Collingwood Yards outside of the CBD. Opening in late 2021 the outpost started as an online radio station in the form of a wine bar with a seasonal menu of small plates designed the be shared. The outdoor area is often transformed into a dance floor.

No surprises for Lipa’s second pick which is the much loved Gimlet Cocktail Bar and Dining Room at Cavendish House, a historical landmark building in Melbourne’s CBD. With booths and bar seats there is a certain European charm to this Australian dining scene with some of the best cocktails you’ll every try.

Carlton Wine Room on Melbourne’s tram line comes in third, a neighbourhood wine bar that is sun filled during the day and transforms into a dimly lit cosy corner in the city’s dining scene at night. The National Gallery of Victoria comes in fourth as her next favourite destination and is a must visit for a cultural fix. It currently houses the Alexander McQueen Mind, Mythos, Muse exhibit showcasing a retrospective of the late designer’s work.

Back to the food.

Lucky last and the best location for a middle eastern feast is NOMAD in the heart of the Melbourne CBD on Flinders Lane. The menu is extensive and if you can’t choose just a couple of dishes, the Feast Menu is perfect for a banquet with friends – arrive hungry. The olive oil ice cream sandwich for dessert is a must. If you can’t make it to the Victorian state there is an outpost in Surry Hills, Sydney.
