The message coming off the Dior Haute Couture Autumn/Winter 2016 catwalk was clear: It’s time to start practicing your steady hand, because winged liner is getting an OTT overhaul. Winged liner looks were customised for each individual girl in flashes of gold and graphic black, individualised for every pair of eyes by Peter Philips, Creative and Image Director of Christian Dior Makeup.

Using a combination of felt-tip and gel liner, Philips painted flicks under, over and around each girl’s eyes to emphasise their natural shape for a come as you are, personal touch. And for an element of surprise, several girls had glimmered, gilded lids courtesy of Dior Addict Fluid Shadow. In a similar vibe to the dramatic make-up look at Versace, where bold lips and eyes were set against raw skin, Philips let the eyes take centre stage with the skin left barely-there and lips kissed with just a hint of Dior Addict Lip Glow Pomade. The unexpected, but undoubtably cool combination proves that dramatic and statement eyes can still look effortless and cool if you play the rest of your make-up cards right.
