It’s officially Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, and one of the most exciting moments we’re eagerly awaiting is the unveiling of Dior’s latest collection.

In developing this new collection, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri was drawn to the work of Adriana Cavarero, an Italian philosopher whose work focuses on feminist theory and bodily metaphors in political discourse.

In the first teaser for the show, Cavarero can be heard elaborating on her work around rethinking representations of women in popular mythology. “Fundamentally, my perspective is to revisit ancient Western philosophy from a subjective feminine point of view,” she explains in the clip.

For fans of Dior, particularly as it is in Chiuri’s reign, the connection is clear. Serving the body has always been a pillar of the French fashion house’s ethos, as well as revisiting the archives through a modern lens. The interplay between politics and dressing is rife for interpretation, and it’s a delineation that is meticulously examined in Chiuri’s work for Dior.

A second teaser takes us to the studio of Rome-based artist Marta Roberti. As she pours over her work, leaving no detail spared, she explains how she is inspired by figures typically minoritised by society; women, animals, and the exotic, to name a few. “It’s almost as if I am trying to rebuild a world that takes these archaic worlds and brings them back into the spotlight to give them the importance they deserve,” she says.

With all these clues to offer a glimpse into what has inspired this year’s Haute Couture collection, were chomping at the bit to see what is in store for us.

Dior Fall/Winter 2023 Haute Couture collection will be streaming from Paris tonight at 11pm (AEST). Catch the live show below!
