Other than her very good genes—Melanie Griffith is her mother, after all—Dakota Johnson is also lauded for her equally great jeans. So, when the actress opened up to Vogue Germany about her favourite pairs during a cover story interview, you can bet we were taking notes.
“I don’t feel like I’m aware of what looks good on me,” she admitted, in what might be the most self-effacing statement of the season—and yet, so relatable. While her off-duty wardrobe has spawned dedicated Instagram accounts and resides on countless moodboards, the actress assured fans that she often sticks to a go-to formula when not aided by her longtime stylist, Kate Young.
She also confessed to a recent wardrobe overhaul that reaffirmed her commitment to simplicity—and her love of denim. “It’s crazy because you often end up wearing only jeans,” she said. “Even right now, I’m wearing jeans and a sweater, but I always choose these pieces very carefully.”

And while we’re all well-acquainted with the perennial struggle to find the perfect pair, Johnson revealed that her denim collection is a thoughtful curation, including many from her two favourite brands. “Always vintage Levi’s,” she told the publication. “If you find a good pair—real ones, not altered ones!—they’re the classic that always looks good.”
But if you’re not one for trawling through vintage store rails or enduring the perils of gauging Depop listing sizing, she also noted her love for Agolde jeans, a Los Angeles-based label known for its sustainability-focused denim, which has become a cult favourite among other celebrities and fashion editors for its modern-vintage feel.
As far as styles go, between vintage Levi’s and Agolde, Johnson has been known to sport 90s-inspired straight-legs and high-waisted wide-leg silhouettes.
