Margot Robbie just took home the Best Actress award for I,Tonya

It’s of common belief that a Critics Choice award win is an almost sure-fire nod to an Oscar. Proof is in the golden pudding, for at least eight of the last ten years anyway (the only movies which won a CCA and didn’t go on to receive an Academy Award were 2010’s The Social Network and 2016’s La La Land.) But with so many incredible films in the running for Best Picture (The Big Sick, Call Me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, The Florida Project, Get Out, Lady Bird, The Post, The Shape Of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri) competition is stiff. Will The Shape Of Water capitalise on it’s 14 nominations?

Australian actress and producer Margot Robbie accepted the Best Actress In A Comedy award for her portrayal of disgraced figure skating champion Tonya Harding. “I’m really nervous,” a flustered Robbie began. “I’m so proud and honoured to be in this group of women. To the critics: As an actress and producer, I appreciate if you’ve gone and seen our movie and embraced it and it’s what we work for.”

While we wait for the remaining awards to be announced, take a look at the red carpet which, after Sunday’s Golden Globe’s black dress code in support of victims of sexual abuse, looks a little lighter in white accents.
