At the end of September, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend announced the incredibly sad news that they had lost their third child, a baby boy named Jack, after Teigen had pregnancy complications which led to hospitalisation.
Sharing her devastation and immense grief on Instagram, where she had been updating her followers on her hospital stay, Teigen wrote, “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
The statement was accompanied by heartbreaking photos showing the couple at the hospital saying goodbye to their baby through tears and Teigen was praised worldwide for sharing a moment that so many women go through privately.
Since then, there’s been silence on both Chrissy and John’s social media accounts. But now, just under a fortnight after they announced their tragic news, Chrissy has made a small return to Instagram.
Over the weekend, popular funny Instagram account, Betches, posted a meme which read: “Just booked an eyebrow waxing appointment and I’m excited I’ll be wearing a mask so I don’t have to hear ‘mustache too?'”
Commenting on the post, Chrissy wrote: “Finally, a giggle. Thank you.”
This small comment is the first time there’s been any activity on Teigen’s Instagram since she announced the family’s loss. On Twitter, she wrote “Driving home from the hospital with no baby. How can this be real,” on October 1st, but hasn’t posted since.
Though she was met by support from millions of people when she announced Jack’s death, others were less kind, writing that the couple should have kept their grief private, because god forbid women talk publicly about anything that happens to their own bodies. Following the backlash, many people jumped to Teigen’s defense, including Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda, who wrote: “However someone chooses to grieve, publicly or privately, is VALID. Grief will fill a room if you let it, and spill out of every window and door. Let people grieve however they choose, not however you believe they should, and hope the world returns the favor for you one day.”
