On Monday night, Chrissy Teigen made her first red carpet appearance in over a year, since both the start of the pandemic and, closer to home, losing her third child Jack to a stillbirth

Teigen was attending the Global Citizen’s VAX Live concert, which she spoke at alongside a star-studded line-up, including Prince Harry, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Ben Affleck, David Letterman, Gayle King, Jimmy Kimmel, Nomzamo Mbatha, Olivia Munn and Sean Penn.

For the event, which was created to encourage people to get vaccinated, as well as to push for vaccines to be available to everyone, worldwide, Teigen’s plus-one was none other than her eldest child, 5-year-old Luna.

While backstage, Luna helped her mum out by holding up the train on her orange Valdrin Sahiti gown. When Teigen got to the red carpet, however, Luna hid underneath her dress, before running out of frame to let her mum get a professional photo.

Following her speech, Teigen posted on Instagram, “[W]as truly an honor even to f–k up my lines in front of 20,000 people. I missed that. I miss people so much. I miss making people smile and laugh. My purpose. This week I learned the word ‘mudita’ – sympathetic joy, joy from giving others joy. That is me. That is my joy!”

Earlier, while prepping for the night, Teigen spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her newfound friendship with the Duchess of Sussex, who wasn’t at the event, despite her husband giving one of the night’s most impassioned speeches

“I feel like our world has just gotten so small, through this whole pandemic and everything. We have to go to Montecito and chill in the chicken house. Archie’s Cluckin’ Hut?” Teigen joked, referring to Archie’s Chick Inn, the coop the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son Archie has in the couple’s backyard, which was featured on their interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Last week, Teigen revealed Markle had reached out to her following the loss of her son Jack—at the time, Markle had also just been through a miscarriage, though she didn’t tell the public until months later.

“She had written me about baby Jack…. but yeah she is really wonderful and so kind — just as kind as everyone says she is,” Teigen said in response to a fan question during the Watch What Happens Live! after show. “She’s been so kind to me ever since we connected.”
