Chloe Grace Moretz has publicly criticised the marketing of her new movie, Red Shoes And The 7 Dwarfs.

In a surprising move, the actress tweeted her anger after a journalist at the Cannes Film Festival pointed out the blatant body-shaming in a poster for the South Korean movie, which is meant to be an animated parody of Snow White.

“I have now fully reviewed the [marketing] for Red Shoes,” Chloe, who voices Snow White in the production, wrote.

“I am just as appalled and angry as everyone else, this wasn’t approved by me or my team.”

“[Please] know I have let the producers of the film know. I lent my voice to a beautiful script that I hope you will all see in its entirety. The actual story is powerful for young women and resonated with me. I am sorry for the offence that was beyond my creative control.”

The poster in question features what is presumably two animated figures of Snow White, one tall and slim, the other shorter and curvier.

“What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 dwarfs not so short?” it asks.

Blame it on the meaning getting lost in translation, but the implied message that a short, curvy Snow White is less beautiful than a tall slender one is dangerous for young viewers.

Red Shoes producer Sujin Hwang has since apologised and confirmed the marketing is no longer in use.

“We sincerely regret any embarrassment or dissatisfaction this mistaken advertising has caused to any of the individual artists or companies involved with the production or future distribution of our film, none of whom had any involvement with creating or approving the now discontinued advertising campaign.”
