In the year 2021, many of us may still be limited to the confines of our homes, but fashion’s most daring designers, it well seems, are able to take us just about anywhere. Such is the case with Celine’s Fall/Winter 2021 men’s collection, which made its online debut today. The 13-minute Hedi Slimane-directed video, entitled “Teen Knight Poem,” begins with the heavy drums of The Loom as a Celine-clad cavalry gallops onto the French Renaissance grounds of Château de Chambord.
The bone-white stallions, epic architecture, and modern-day medieval magnificence amount to quite the visual feast—as do the “Nouveau Romantique”-inspired ensembles, which are worn by a handful of male models as they storm down the castle’s winding rooftop walkways. Think: armour-like leather jackets tossed over denim and ruffled cotton Renaissance tops; Fair Isle sweaters alongside grommet-studded ski masks bearing the Paris-based house’s logo; and floor-grazing capes paired with silver chains (and lots of them) and smudgy kohl-rimmed eyes. (Elsewhere on the beauty front? Onyx-varnished fingertips and rose gold ombré tips.) Call it fashion for a new age—and Slimane is leading the charge.
