The belfie – a butt selfie, for the uninitiated – was coined in 2015. The trend though really took flight on social media thanks to Taylor Hill and Romee Stridj when they posed in this photo while in between shoots for Victoria’s Secret on a tropical holiday in 2016. Or perhaps we could pinpoint such a craze to Kim Kardashian-West (uncomfortably) posing for her husband’s lens on a pile of dirt in 2015. (Was it degrading or just plain weird or both? No one could decide). Either way, the belfie has had a resurgence this week – and in particularly the last 24 hours – as our favourite models have posted their backsides to Instagram. Here Bella Hadid one-ups Selena Gomez’s Vogue shoot with a belfie of her own, Hailey Baldwin stays relevant with a bikini belfie and consistently naked Emily Ratakowski is, well, naked again. Behold, March 20’s belfie Olympics. Who in your opinion takes the gold?
