Cate Blanchett is seen like never before in the new music video for Massive Attack’s latest release, The Spoils featuring Hope Sandoval.

The Academy Award-winning actress is the focus of the clip released on Wednesday, the camera centred on her face which remains motionless as it undergoes a series of bizarre and haunting transformations. At first she has a simple hairstyle or skin colour change, but her famous face eventually becomes mummified.

The video was directed by Australia’s John Hillcoat, the man behind grim 2012 crime thriller flick Lawless and 2009’s post-apocalyptic film The Road.

The Spoils is one of several releases from Massive Attack this year, and is on the English trip-hop groups’ two-song EP of the same name.

It’s not the first time Massive Attack has featured a high-profile person in one of their videos – Kate Moss starred in Ritual Spirit and Rosemund Pike was in Voodoo In My Blood.
